Best eSIM for Turkey: what to buy in 2026
Which eSIM works best in Turkey, how much data you really need, and how to stay online from the moment you land in Istanbul or Antalya.
Bu yazı henüz çevrilmedi — İngilizce sürüm gösteriliyor.

Turkey is one of the easiest countries to stay connected in — if you sort your data
out before you land. Airport SIM counters in Istanbul are expensive, queues are long,
and tourist SIMs are often capped after a few gigabytes. An eSIM solves all three
problems: you install it at home, and it activates the moment you connect to a Turkish
network.
How much data do you actually need?
Most travellers underestimate maps and overestimate streaming. As a rough guide:
| Trip length | Light use | Maps, socials, some video |
|---|---|---|
| Weekend city break | 3 GB | 5 GB |
| One week | 5 GB | 10 GB |
| Two weeks or more | 10 GB | 20 GB |
If you work remotely or tether a laptop, take the next size up. Video calls burn
roughly 500 MB to 1 GB per hour.
Coverage: what to expect
Coverage in Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya and along the Aegean coast is excellent, with 5G
in major city centres. In Cappadocia and the eastern provinces you will mostly see
strong 4G. Ferries and mountain roads are the usual dead spots — download offline maps
before long drives.
Before you fly
- Buy your plan and install the eSIM while you are still on Wi-Fi.
- Leave data roaming on for the eSIM profile — that is how it connects abroad.
- Keep your home SIM active for calls and SMS, and set the eSIM as your data line.
Activation on arrival
Nothing to do. When your phone finds a Turkish network, the plan starts and your
validity window begins. If you do not see data straight away, toggle flight mode once
or select the network manually in your settings.
Common mistakes
- Buying at the airport. You pay a premium for the same networks.
- Choosing by price alone. A cheap 1 GB plan runs out on day two.
- Turning off roaming for the eSIM. The profile then has no way to attach.
